Anya Baboyedova is a Ukrainian-American painter living and working between Florida, US and Liguria, Italy.

Born in Dnipro, Ukraine, she received a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, USA and a Master’s from the Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis, France.

Anya’s artistic perspective has been shaped by the diversity of the physical, as well as cultural/social landscapes she has encountered over the last thirty years having lived and worked in France, the US, Italy, and the UAE.

Her work is centered around the notions of home and belonging, where happy childhood memories are tangled with sadness and nostalgia of being away from her homeland - the feelings she felt were reconciled when she connected to the landscapes of the countries she lived in. Anya draws from the tapestry of those remembered landscapes.

Using multiple layers of acrylic paint, inks, and natural pigments, Anya works both intuitively and intentionally. She seeks to find harmony in her compositions. With no preliminary sketches, she uses canvas as her playground when she applies and removes color to find a well balanced outcome. She believes that finding balance is akin to finding a sense of interior calm amidst the exterior noise one encounters, and a sense of home away from home, regardless of the land one inhabits.
